USC Salk enrollment tops goal of 1,000
Wednesday, November 11, 2009ALLENDALE – Enrollment at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie campus in Allendale and Walterboro has topped 1,000 students.
Jane Brewer, associate dean for student services, reported 1,025 students are enrolled in classes at the campus for the fall 2009 semester. With the 957 students enrolled in Associate’s Degrees and core curriculum courses, plus the 68 students in the Bachelor’s of Liberal Studies, Bachelor’s of Nursing and Bachelor’s of Elementary Education programs, the total number of students enrolled on the campus for fall breaks the 1,000 mark, setting a record enrollment for the campus, she said.
“With the current state of our economy, more students are seeking affordable options for continuing their education after high school,” says Dr. Ann Carmichael, dean of USC Salkehatchie. “Our growth is evidence that USC Salkehatchie provides an optimal solution, offering a university-quality education at a fraction of the cost. Our partnerships with the university system to offer four-year degrees on our campuses enables students to avoid relocation costs and increases the likelihood that they will stay in the area to live and work.”
Chrissy Holliday, director of enrollment management at the campus, noted, “Enrolling 1,000 students on our campus for the fall has been a goal for us over the past year, and we are excited that it has become a reality.”
“This record enrollment is thanks to the hard work of all the people who work hard to help each of our students through the admissions, financial aid and enrollment process,” she added. “USC Salkehatchie is an excellent option for those who want the benefits of a university education in a small town atmosphere, and this enrollment record proves that more people are making us a first choice for their education.”
Enrollment for the spring 2010 semester is currently under way.
