A point of view from Jerusalem

I am an American-Israeli Jew, originally from New Jersey and currently living in Jerusalem, Israel. I read about the comments from Misters Ulmer and Merwin in the Jerusalem Post.
While I understand the history of the stereotype of the penny-pinching Jew, I am honestly not offended by the article. I believe that the chairmen were simply making a favorable comparison between (supposed) Jewish business acumen and the bill they are in support of.
There are, unfortunately, enough incidents in the world of real anti-Semitism (or any other -ism — choose your religion / ethnicity / gender ad nauseam). This does not strike me as one of them. The only outrage I feel is the overreaction of the ADL and other groups. There are better ways to express dismay and to educate people over what may arguably be a poor choice of words.
On another note, if anyone wants to burst the stereotype of Jewish intellectual superiority, just come to Israel and see how people here drive / cross the street — it’s almost as if they are trying to demonstrate to all their belief in G-d!
