SCSU’s Pough a finalist for Eddie Robinson Award

South Carolina State head coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough has been named to The Sports Network’s Eddie Robinson Award Ballot.

Voting for the award will be conducted this week and winners will be announced Thursday, Dec. 18 during the 22nd annual Sports Network award dinner at the Marriott Hotel in Chattanooga, TN.

Pough was selected as a finalist for the award, given to the top coach in the FCS, after leading SCSU to its first playoff berth since 1982 and their first MEAC championship since 1994. The Bulldogs, who will play App. State at noon in Boone, NC Saturday to open the FCS playoffs, were 10-2 during the regular season.

Pough is joined on the Robinson Award ballot by App. State head coach Jerry Moore, James Madison head coach Mickey Matthews, Northern Iowa’s Mark Farley, Wofford’s Mike Ayers, Villanova’s Andy Talley, Jacksonville’s Kerwin Bell, Colgate’s Dick Biddle, Central Arkansas’ Clint Conque, Maine’s Jack Cosgrove, Cal Poly’s Rich Ellerson, Brown’s Phil Estes, Albany’s Bob Ford, Prairie View’s Henry Frazier, Montana’s Bobby Hauck, Eastern Kentucky’s Dean Hood, Southern Illinois’ Dale Lennon, Weber State’s Ron McBride, Liberty’s Danny Rocco and Florida A&M’s Joe Taylor.
