South Carolina State, following a day off Sunday, returned to the practice field Monday as the Bulldogs conducted two workouts.

The Bulldogs conducted a 6:15 a.m. drill in full pads, then came back for a 6:50 p.m. workout in just shorts, helmets and shoulder pads.

S.C. State head coach Buddy Pough termed the morning session a lively and productive one, attributing his team’s performance to the cool temperatures. The evening practice, which was mostly devoted to the passing game – both offensively and defensively – was dominated by the defense, according to Pough.

“Going early gave us a chance to get in a real productive practice,” Pough said “Not having to worry about the weather, allowed us to maintain our focus and be more productive.

“In our evening practice, we worked a good bit on our passing game,” he continued. “We looked good in spots but the defense got the best of the offense for the most part.

“We had a few drops (by the receivers) and we experience a little trouble with our timing. We’ve looked good at time passing the ball, but we want our quarterbacks to become more consistent in their execution.”

S.C. State will hold a single practice Tuesday, beginning at 9:50 a.m. In the evening, Coach Pough and players Raymond Harrison, the Bulldogs’ All-MEAC center and offensive captain, and defensive back Terrence Allen, the defensive captain, will appear live at 6:30 p.m. on Sports Talk (WDOG 93.5 FM), a live broadcast of the S.C. News Network, hosted by Phil Kornblut, which will originate from the press box at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
