Newspaper carrier dies in crash

A Cordova man died early Friday morning and his 3-year old grandson was flown to a Columbia hospital after a vehicle roll-over on U.S. Highway 301 in Orangeburg County.
Odell Folk, 67, 214 Leg Lane, died around 4:30 a.m. when the 2006 Toyota he was traveling in rolled over while going north on U.S. 301 about 1.9 miles west of Cordova.
"The vehicle drifted into the median to the left, struck a culvert and flipped several times and ejected the driver," S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said. "The 3-year-old child was restrained in a child safety seat."
The three-year old passenger, who was Folk's grandson, was flown to Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, Beres said.
The condition of the three-year old was not known.
Folk was not wearing a seat belt.
Folk, who was a 3-1/2-year independent newspaper carrier delivering The Times and Democrat, had just completed a delivery route when the accident occured.
Folk had a home delivery route and delivered the T&D Shopper primarly in the Cope area.
It is the second incident in less than a week involving a T&D newspaper carrier.
Elliott White was nearing the end of his delivery route around 4:45 a.m. Saturday when he approached Crazy Joe's, a Vance convenience store located on Old Number Six Highway.
John Henry Isaac, 65, was parked in the parking lot of the store. As White was filling the newspaper box, Isaac allegedly drove up and shot White from his vehicle
White suffered a shotgun blast to his right side as a result of the attack. He was transported by emergency personnel to the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Isaac is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
