Registration under way for Parkinson’s symposium

COLUMBIA – Parkinson Association of the Carolinas and Palmetto Healthcare will host a symposium from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Columbia Convention Center.

Speakers will include Dr. Kapil Sethi, professor of neurology and director of the Movement Disorders Program at the Medical College of Georgia; and Dr. Cynthia Fox, CCC-SLP, research associate for the National Center for Voice and Speech, research lecturer in the Department of Neurology at the University of Arizona and executive vice president of the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy Foundation. Topics will include an overview of Parkinson’s disease, new drug therapies, advances in deep brain stimulation, genetic and environmental links related to Parkinson’s disease, research with speech therapy and techniques for strengthening the voice.
